The statistics are easily verifiable from the Bureau of Labor statistics. They are also the same in Europe.Fireman is not in the top 10. Fisherman, Construction, truck driver,farmer, all much more dangerous than being a firefighter. Ex July 2007 entire family of 5 killed on farm by methane from Manure(cow crap)but no one will get a parade or a pensions etc. Ex:Farmers armed pulled into Corn picking machine, machine catches fire,uses pocket knife to cut off his own arm including bone, to escape!

Wow, this is crazy, where did this happen? Why where they doing this? I live in America, and I have never heard of this or seen it happen before?Im America, Fire fighters my not get paid, and arn't represented that much in america,but it is know as to be one of the best damn job in the world,and one of the most dangerous ones to.We are the ones that run into the fire to save your asses from dieing or getting hurt,and when all is done and over...we ca walk away knowing we saved a life.

Fire fighters are so much better then this.. I have never heard of any firefighter, that has done this before. Firefighting is one of the number one dangerous jobs in america today because we go in and save your houses, and fight the fires in the fire..we save the innocent children, we save the houses...we do so much more then others that think that we do...We put our lifes on the line everyday to protecct or people and our country..u have no balls man,disrespecting the Fire department!

I totally agree.... VERY REAL STORIES... and the one thats gets the most to you.. is when you go in to save a child, and dont get there in time, and your running out of the burning building with them limp in your arms... It's not only hard physically... but also mentally and emotionally. Fire Fighting is real and dangerous, no matter how you look at the situation.... I agree 100% with hawaiianff...Fire Fighters are one of the soul cores of America and everywhere else!

I am sure the stories are real, but it does not change the statistical facts and figures. For every firefighters death there a almost 4 times as many Farming deaths. In 2005 Farmers with a fatality rate of 41.1 per 100,000 are more than twice as likely to die on the job than police officers with 18.2 deaths per 100,000 and nearly four times more likely to be killed at work than firefighters with 11.5 deaths per 100,0000. I did not make the numbers up, I am just telling you of them.

You may be right, to be fair, I do not know for sure how much time is spent training, staying up to date, etc after initial training is over with. I still don, t think it is a bad job considering the hours and you are still getting paid when you are asleep..that being said, it sucks to be woke up in the middle of the especially if it is for ridiculous uncalled for things that really do not require the fire Dept,paramedics etc.

yeah.. it really ticks me off to wake up in the middle of the night because a tree fell on the road... most of the time it's a freaken branch... not even a tree.. that pisses me off

Some Fire Houses do small runs, others Have a LOT in one day, most of the time it depends on the Location that you are a Fire Fighter at. Like say New York.. Those guys are on call ALL the time, Vs a small town that has low population..it varies a LOT.Where you live depends on the training, the sleeping, ect. Where I live I train NON stop as a Fire Fighter..I work my ass off... but the thing is is that I'm Proud to do what I do...save Lives and protect my nation and community. Love it Everyday!

Most people do it just for the name... which sucks, because you should do it because you want to do it, because you want to get out there and save lifes and protect everyone and your nation! Not because it's a Name you want to have and associate with. Yes there are some that dont want to do the work, and that don't want to do what "REAL" fire fighters do... that's why most of America thanks we dont do anything... when there are those of us out there that really work our butts off and do our job!

just respect firefighters;dont just keep going on about the statistics-maybe firefighters die less often because they are more careful than farmers,police etc.

i understand why the firemen protested and fought the cops-i can imagine how tiring and dangerous it is being one and how infuriating it would be to not get paid enough. I respect firefighters more than cops definitely(although both jobs require controlling and restraining things)

sure, you right firefighters and police officers who get a few weeks training and not more than 6 months in order to start their jobs are much better trained than farmers who have been on the farm from the day they were born working on the farm and trained for the entire lives! Farmers work from before sun up to sun down with large dangerous heavy machinery equipment, augers, large animals,grain and corn silos, methane etc. Statistically farming is more dangerous than being a cop or fireman!
