Althought it is indeed a common riff, your logic is backwards. This song was cut off of Falling Into Infinity, released in 1997. "Even The Waves" was on "Dead Air For Radios", which was released in 1998.

I think this song is simply awesome. For those of you wondering, the red thing Rudess uses is a Haken Fingerboard Coninuum. This song did not make it to Falling Into Infinity because the record company did not want DT to release a double disk album, they didn't think it would sell well.

In my opinion, Falling into Infinity was their best CD along with Images and Words. When they played this song on The Score I had never heard it before, so when LaBrie said it was off of the Falling into Infinity CD I was perplexed. This song I think is one of the best they've ever done. Another for me to try to master on drums, lol. I've almost got the whole thing down to a T! Peace...
