The Pond Digger
Buckeye...does this make an automatic moron? First of all, you're acting as though they can't survive without be carnivorous...they can live without being fed. Second of all, of course they slowly developed all that. Not one plant, even same species are the same. Not every single gene is the same. Otherwise, we would all look the same. There wouldn't even be species or different kingdoms if there weren't mutations...They didn't all poof in.
Critter trapping one-way tubes, gooey, sticky prongs and surfaces that slowly curl in on the prey...all are impressive adaptations to nutrition-impoverished soil. But nothing is as over-the-top FREAKY as what the Venus' flytrap has managed to accomplish. How does it do it? Through a combination of
everything from something called "fast growth" (along the outer edge of the trap's hinge), electrical impulses, something involving calcium ions...huh, what? Uncanny.
